ABOUT / ABIGAIL SLOAN FORT
From the South.
Somewhere new.

I’m a multidisciplinary artist, writer and photographer from New Orleans, now living and working in Berlin.
My practice moves between painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, taxidermy, writing and performance. I’m drawn to the human form, to memory and desire, and to the strange, uncomfortable process of becoming.
Growing up in the American South taught me about beauty, ritual and the expectations placed on women. Living in Rome and Berlin gave me new ways to question those expectations. My work lives between those places: tradition and rebellion, tenderness and discomfort, preservation and change.
I let the subject choose the medium. Sometimes that means a painting, sometimes a photograph, sometimes a piece of writing. Humor, symbolism, color and the natural world sit alongside more visceral images.
Alongside my own practice, I work in creative environments. My experience spans fine art and antiques, gallery production, restoration and design coordination, executive assistance, luxury retail, events and client relationships. I like a good idea. I also like making the practical pieces fit.
Caregiving is another part of my background. It has made me attentive to people: what they need, what they say, and what they haven’t said yet.
